A reflection about socially just self-managing schools and the things they do.  These schools have a strong image of themselves. The strong image comes from leadership that allows people to take risks and make mistakes without fear of loss of face or retribution. It also stems the intrusion of mindless noneducational nonsense! As an organisation they work in reflective ways that involved asking itself –

  • Why do we do what we do here?
  • are we doing what we think we are doing?
  • are we incorporating a range of viewpoints?
  • how might we do things differently?

Leaders of these socially just self-managing school are able to be enthusiastically carry people along with them by assisting the school community to ‘uncover meaning in what they do, while investing in them the capacity to change, improve and transform what they do,’
